By being able to ban a user forever from ever using the website, moderators are able to inhibit freedom of speech by banning any users who do not agree with their personal values, even if they did not break any "rules".
However, more importantly, it gives the moderators an unreasonable amount of control over the content.
The stupid and really horrible reason they do this is because they don't want people creating multiple accounts and they think it will tone down people's passion. What is even worse is that if you use a pseudonym, they will demand you give your government-issued ID to "verify your identity". Now even this stupid Quora question and answer website wants you to post your real name in order to create an account which is required to even use the website! This is a massive violation of privacy. However if you have little to no experience are very timid and are satisfied with being treated like a child you'll be a supervisor in 5 to 7 years no prob.Why Quora Sucks Let's face it - we all hate posting our personal information on the internet.
They could get twice the workload completed with half the current staff if they treated there employees honestly and actually appreciated experience (experience in this field is number 1 followed by work ethic) not a job you want if you are good at what you do you will leave feeling underappreciated and degraded daily. They choose to promote people from other sites with little to no experience to save a buck and it shows projects are double to quadruple done because of that fact. Not a recommended job for someone with real field experience. Actually was told by a superintendent the OT I made as a lead would make up for the lack of hourly payment increase with position advance. Most of the leads are severely under qualified for there position. Most people with any field experience or knowledge will quit within the first few months once they realize this company is a meat grinder. Great place to work if you want to be treated like you are in prison. I understood then, that at the end of the day the bottom line is the only real importance to the company and my mental health wasn’t their problem. When my manager pulled me aside on my last day to lay me off I felt genuinely let down and disappointed, I really looked up to him and ended up feeling all the previous support had an expiration date. I was desperately seeking help through therapy and medication, but to no avail and eventually was let go. Unfortunately my work started to reflect how I was doing mentally and emotionally, which was not well even with the grief counseling. The company provided an EAP which I used for grief counseling. About 6 months after the promotion however, my father passed away and I fell into a deep depression. I started as a PMA and eventually received a promotion, the promotion included some on the job training which was helpful and I began to feel comfortable with more and more of my new duties. I worked for IES for nearly 4 years and mostly had a good experience.
